Aurora Robson: be like water

be like water is an exhibition featuring new work by Brooklyn-based artist Aurora Robson, one of my favorite artists. I was able to attend the opening of the installation during DesignPhiladelphia at the Skybox at 2424 Studios.

Curated by Eileen Tognini, the installation featured sculptures created by Aurora were made from thousands of recycled plastic bottles and over 108′ long. The exhibition was in an industrial space, and the opening reception had a fluid atmosphere that included low lighting, water-like music and salt water taffy.

In conjunction with the show, local schools were asked to collect plastic bottle caps, which were displayed at the entrance of the show. Plastic bottle caps often do not get recycled and end up in landfills and oceans causing environmental distress. After the exhibition ends, Robson will deliver the bottle caps to Aveda in Babylon, NY, one of the only places in the country that recycles these caps.

I love how the space’s lamps seem to blend right into the installation.

The huge crane.

You can still catch the exhibit — it runs through November 7th.
