Barcelona Apartment Renovation by TC-Interiors

This large apartment located in Barcelona, Spain gets a massive renovation that incorporates the original building details along with modern conveniences. Led by architect Victor Gonzalez Marti of TC-Interiors, the Communicating Vessels project called for an open layout with tons of natural light and the result is a bright industrial space with loft-like appeal.

The “rotunda” library mimics a 1923 theater that is located next door. I love the mini stairs they incorporated into the shelving unit to help you access the (wonky) upper shelves.

Looking up at “Lighting Carpets”

Each space, or vessel, has a customized lighting system above it indicating that space for a specific use. They call them “Lighting Carpets,” used much like a floor rug, to warm up each space and to define it.

The walls and ceilings were taken back to their original brick form, leaving electrical work exposed. It adds to the charm.

We are loving how the lighting system defines space.

Walls were demolished and windows were enlarged to help the light flow throughout. A long corridor extends the length of the apartment allowing for an uninterrupted sightline from front to back.

In the bedroom, they built an elevated deck with a jacuzzi tub for relaxation and surrounded it with greenery.

The bathroom is meant to be cave-like, much like the darkness in a theater (like the one next door).
