A Barcelona Apartment Gets a Renovation

Croatia-born, Barcelona-based architect Eva Cotman designed this small apartment which needed an interior renovation. Located in Raval, the Ciutat Vella district of Barcelona, which has become the place to move for young professionals and students. The apartment is for a young couple who are active in the social scene and like to experience the different hot spots, and their home now reflects that, too, with various spaces to move around in.

The clients wanted endless amounts of natural light and for the home to function at its maximum capacity without losing the charm of the building. With a tight budget and an even tighter deadline, Cotman had her work cut out for her.

All of the non-load bearing walls were removed to make the apartment feel more open. The brick walls and wooden ceilings were all painted white creating a blank canvas for the couple.

A library was built into the staircase to hold a bunch of books, which appears to be about the only color in the space at the moment.

The galley kitchen is kept completely white as well and opens up to the dining room and living room.

The staircase leads to a small area that holds a guest bed.

I love how the materials are kept simple with just plain wood acting as nightstands and a single bulb hanging above for light.
