Basket-container is a minimalist design created by Tokyo-based design firm Nendo. Kyoto artisans have been employed for over a thousand years by creating intricate wire netting cooking utensils, also known as “kana-ami.” Nendo created their latest work in collaboration with Kanaami-Tsuji, a Kyoto-based wire netting firm that preserves the craft’s traditions.Â
The individually hand-bent wires are carefully constructed to form the basket’s netting, and placed on top of a steel frame that allows the basket to function as a container for small objects and peripherals for use in tight spaces such as the entryway, bathroom, or even between a sofa and wall. The table is available is three different heights, and two varying shapes: a rectangle or oval.
In addition, customers can choose whether to have the table made with either the basket version, or a flat version. Due to the slenderness of the legs, the tables can be stacked or combined through the netting. The tables are powder-coated with a matte finish to bring out the details in their construction without becoming overbearing in their respective settings.
