Nostalgia fueled the initial idea behind Inga Sempé’s Beau Fixe collection for Ligne Roset. Remembering her childhood times at the shore, Sempé would sit in elephant-like chairs with “ears” that let her snuggle up to them after swimming. Figuring out a way to modernize that idea without being stuck in nostalgia was a challenge that worked out beautifully for Sempé in an armchair, footrest, and two-seat settee.
The pieces are made up of a metal structure and a quilt that is clamped into the jaws to keep it in place. The soft, puffy quilt becomes segmented into the seat, back, arms, and headrest once clamped making a comfortable place to rest. The clamps remain visible as they flow into the legs of the chair. The “ears” curl up around the head to create a cozy environment.
