The Bedford House by Lynne Breslin Architects is situated on what looks to be a rocky cliff overlooking a beautiful river. To me, it looks entirely too unsafe to live in! However, I’m sure that it’s just fine, and I bet the view is remarkable.

I grew up near this site. We were friendly with the family that owned the land, and were allowed use. This is a rock quarry, not a river. We used to swim in it. See http://www.mindat.org/loc-8589.html. If memory serves, Frederick Lenz (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Frederick_Lenz) was the first occupant of this house.

Gorgeous photos! I happen to be the current listing agent on this fantastic property. Just to set the record straight with regard to the previous comment….Irving and Jean Farber were the orignal owners. They built and designed the original house with then Kurth and Kurth Architects of Bedford New York. Frederick Lenz was the second owner. The present owner completley redesigned inside and out the pre-existing house with Architect Lynne Breslin of New York.

I really appreciate that Realtor Caroline Shepherd clarified that I, (along with my former partner Peter Kurth, AIA) are in fact the Architects for Quarry Court, designed for the original owners.
We also found the property, showed it to the client and it was love at first sight!
The groundbreaking design, emerging from the sheer walls of the Quarry, was an architectural feat, as well as presented many construction challenges as one can imagine, on this incredible site.
An interesting fact about the original Award Winning design was that the home was featured at an AIA Architectural Design exhibition at the NYC Javitts Convention Center in 1983, and was then featured in a traveling exhibition across the USA featuring “exceptional women architects and their work” , culminating with the project becoming a permanent part of a National Archive of Women Architects.
I was also the Architect for renovations to Quarry Court for the second owner, Mr. Fred Lenz and his estate after his untimely passing.
The recent renovations of Quarry Court by Lynne Breslin Architects, are largely within the framework and foundation of the original Quarry Court architecture, that I designed (and built) 1982 – 1984.
