Belt Lighting Wins the Coveted Compasso d’Oro ADI

After Milan Design Week wrapped up, Italian lighting brand Flos happily announced that Belt, designed by Ronan and Erwan Bouroullec, was the winner of the 27th edition of the Compasso d’Oro ADI. The modular lighting system was developed, engineered, and produced by Flos Architectural, a division of Flos Group that specializes in technical lighting solutions for interiors.

Roberta Silva, CEO of Flos, said of the honor, “This is the tenth Compasso d’Oro won in the history of our brand for a product, but it is the first one for our Flos Architectural division… With Belt, Flos has cancelled out any lines that separated the categories of technical and decorative lighting, proving that the brand’s philosophy is strong and consistent in all its production units. Belt represents the perfect fusion of innovation, lighting performance, human-centered design, elegance of form, and refined craftsmanship.”

Belt’s light source is housed in long, artisan-crafted leather elements. These soft sections serve as the unit’s power supply as well as connection points. It’s here that Belt gets its characteristic serpentine shape as well as its name. The lighting is available in black, green, and natural leather finishes, and comes in various lengths and sizes for maximum adaptability. At FuoriSalone 2022, Flos presented a new version of Belt, featuring a durable, highly resistant, 100% recyclable stretch fabric in grey olive and copper brown finishes. Belt Fabric will be launched later this year.
