Bouleau by Julie Richoz

Industrial designer Julie Richoz took the top prize at Design Parade 7 with her desk tray and basket Bouleau design. Bouleau was inspired by a round, industrial metal clamp. The clamp is made more flexible due to its cut out form. Richoz reinterpreted it into wood using birch plywood, then added a metal ring and an aluminum base to create both pieces.

The entire piece is held together using the elasticity of the wood. Besides the functionality of the cut-out design to hold it together, its gives the piece character.
