A Casual Home to Match its Casual Residents

Christopher Megowan Design designed the Casual House in a suburb of Melbourne, Victoria, Australia, to reflect the casual and easy going nature of its owners. Looking for low maintenance, they were able to create a cost effective extension, using no frills materials, to the back of their family home in Newport.

The home’s foundation in the center needed to be replaced, so the new extension fixed that with a new kitchen, living room, dining room, a bathroom, and laundry area.

During the renovation, they were also able to extend existing spaces to convert it into a second living space and two new bedrooms.

The vibe they were looking for was a relaxed, beachy, and contemporary feel that would blend with the character of the weatherboard cottage of the original part of the house.

Windows along the roof line flood the interior with natural light connecting the space to the outdoors.
