We started off the month in Petite-Rivière-Saint-François, Québec, Canada, checking out a pair of cabins by Bourgeois / Lechasseur architectes. The Reflection – Mirror Cabins encourage guests to soak in nature around them. How these cabins differ from most are the reflective glass walls that make them almost disappear into the trees. But don’t worry – the birds are safe! The architects paid close attention to the mirror treatment – bird-deterrent window markers approved by the Audubon Society – on the windows to prevent bird collisions.

Modern Shed’s Maxed Out Portable Home: The DW (Dwelling on Wheels)
At 220 square feet, The DW (Dwelling on Wheels) by Modern Shed is a modern, self-contained structure that’s spacious enough to make it a home, yet compact enough to take it on the road. Despite its tiny footprint, Modern Shed designed the interior so it doesn’t feel cramped. Sight lines are kept open with a floor-to-ceiling window placed at the end of the hallway, opposite the end wall of windows. At the front end, a deck extends out allowing space for a couple of chairs and a small table to enjoy the outdoors.

A Tiny Triangular Retreat Floating Above the Vegetation in Dolphin Sands
Tasked with building a tiny home in isolation, Matt Williams Architects designed this small, triangular retreat in Dolphin Sands on the coast of Tasmania. Named the Dolphin Sands Studio, the structure spans a mere 32 square meters (approx. 344 square feet) floating above the dunes as not to disturb the vegetation and snakes (eek!) that slither freely.
