Chhavi House: A Desert Villa in Jodhpur by Abraham John Architects

Abraham John Architects were tasked with designing a residence in Jodhpur, Rajasthan, India within the Thar Desert. Situated on a small corner lot with buildings along two sides, the Chhavi House was a challenge when dealing with privacy concerns. The views were thoughtfully considered, screens were utilized, and courtyards were added in order to make it happen.

Another challenge was the extreme climate causing high temperatures. A perforated screen was installed along the second floor to help filter the sun as well as add additional privacy. At night, light from the interior penetrates the screen creating a beautiful effect on the facade.

A double-height living room features two floor-to-ceiling walls of glass and a floating staircase, both of which exaggerate the ceiling’s height.

The master bedroom has a sky lit extension with plants and a seat for relaxing.
