A City of Bookcases by Los Contratistas

MDF manufacturer Masisa invited Los Contratistas to design a pavilion for the Casa Bosques Bookstore in Mexico City for the Abierto Mexicano de Diseño 2013. The goal was to create an installation that would demonstrate the qualities of the MDF materials and how those materials could affect the human environment. The result is a city of bookcases, dubbed Book City, that reference an abstract connection between the object, the interior, and the city.

From Los Contratistas founder, Isauro Huízar:

City · Building · Column · Furniture · Object
When you really look, great things are made of small things. The city is made up of buildings, the buildings are shaped by interiors, and the interiors are made up by objects. Architecture helps us to interpret the sequence as a spatial structure. It helps us to assess the unique work and the monument as a key element of the city’s history and collective memory.
