Classic Vases Made Out of a Beloved Childhood Tool

Finnish designer Tuomas Markunpoika took a classic childhood tool, the colored pencil, and constructed a collection of vases with a very distinct look. Working with Faber-Castell, each pencil was glued together and then machined with a lathe to form curvy, sophisticated vases in three different heights. The Amalgated series explores the idea of a mass-produced tool and its singular purpose. Tuomas reimagines the pencil beyond ordinary use, giving the pencil a new identity.
