Abstract Paintings by Tory Cowles

Another dose of colorful abstract artwork for CMYLK today. Can’t say I ever tire of it (though I have had a request for something representational, so stay tuned). In the meantime, today’s energetic compositions are by artist Tory Cowles, whose studio is in the Torpedo Factory, along the Potomac River in Alexandria, Virginia (worth the trip if you’re in D.C.). Prior to painting abstracts, Cowles worked in three dimensional mediums, such as stonewall building, woodworking, interior design, architecture, and carpentry. She says, “When I started painting abstracts, the challenges and appeal of my previous 3D work were able to be incorporated onto the 2D canvas.” We definitely see the connection in these acrylic paintings.
