Brooklyn-based Wintercheck Factory focuses on a polyurethane rubber in their latest series of furniture, Collection 400 – Industrial Rubber. The flexible material is mostly used to manufacture gaskets and belts, and due to its amber-like appearance, they selected it as their latest material which they’ve combined with wood. The unusual pairing feels a bit familiar but at the same time foreign, making you look closer to check out the tactile quality of the rubber.
#401 Chair
A minimal yellow pine frame holds a hand cast heavy slab of rubber that’s been pressed into the seat like a cushion.
#402 Side Table
Cast as a single piece of rubber, the semi-transparent material highlights the intersecting planes of the piece while showing off its structure.
#403 Floor Lamp
A T8 fluorescent tube shines through the thick, rectangular shell giving it a slightly obscure appearance.
#404 Bench
A 54″ long, yellow pine, rectangular base supports an 18lb cast rubber cushion.
#405 Lamp Table
Combining a side table and a lamp, this piece houses a single T8 fluorescent bulb behind a recessed panel of rubber allowing it to give off a subtle glow.
