A Collection Inspired by the Raw Materials They’re Made From

Esrawe is back with a new collection of trays, lamps, accessories, and side tables called Prima Materia. Each of the pieces focuses on the materials that were randomly found in various forms of commercialization in stores and warehouses. The first step after choosing the materials was to study them in their “raw” form to see which direction the material “wanted” to go in. The result is a cohesive collection of unique objects made from wood, brass, and bronze.

Héctor Esrawe worked with Emilio Chapela on the Estratos trays. Made of solid wood and brass, each tray was made after the natural designs of the wood were photographed, digitalized, and then traced onto the surface of the wood with a robot. That process was repeated until a pattern was slowly engraved into the wood.

The Mondal side tables are made with a brass tray, which balances above a geometric walnut base.

Another side table, named Torna, but this one is made from a round, machined wooden base and a brass top.

And lastly, the Vari lamp, also in bronze and walnut, was inspired by the commercially acquired bronze cylinder at the base. The lamp is turned on manually by sliding the wooden pole to the other side, like a giant on/off switch.
