The Colorful Paintings of Claire Desjardins

If you spend a lot of time on Pinterest, you might already know Canadian artist Claire Desjardins’ work. Full of colorful gobs of paint that are reminiscent of a well-loved painter’s palette, or melted rainbow sherbet, her abstracts have been featured in exhibitions, she has sold works at Anthropologie, she holds painting workshops and she sells some of her work through Saatchi Art.

As the daughter of an artist, Claire’s earliest memories involve paints and color. She’s constantly evolving, trying new techniques and changing her style, yet one constant seems to remain: color. She layers on color using paint drips and highly saturated, watery colors to create layers and texture. Her recent pieces include a lot of washes and softer lines, inspired by Helen Frankenthaler and Emily Mason.

She will also be showing new work at The Artist Project, an annual contemporary art fair in Toronto, with about 250 other artists, February 19-22nd at the Better Living Centre, Exhibition Place in Toronto.
