Courant’s Mag:2 Is a Recharging Bedside Companion

The origin story behind luxe phone accessory brand Courant may sound all too familiar, one that parallels the impetus behind many successful brands: two partners can’t find a product to meet their own standards, so they decide to start their own venture to appease their elevated expectations of what their envisioned product could be. Thus, Monish Sabnani and Evan Moskal began Courant in 2018, driven by their own infallible dedication to imagining charging accessories invigorated by an air of “sophistication and elegance.”

Courant would establish itself amongst fashion-forward iPhone users with their charging Catch:1, Catch:2, and Catch:3 devices, each offering straightforward functionality accessorized by an extra layer of luxurious tactile satisfaction using Italian leather and Belgian linen. What we’ve always liked about Courant’s approach to these charging accessories is their holistic approach to tech accessories which need to be left out in the open to be useful and convenient for daily use, designing tech products deemphasizing the “tech” aspect visually (but retaining the utility hidden from view).

Their latest design, the MAG:2, offers an elevated effort – literally – a MagSafe compatible vertical charging stand outfitted with a compact dual charging power setup for the iPhone and AirPods.

The MAG:2 continues Courant’s effort to reference forms from the realm of home decor, fashion, and furniture design rather than other tech devices with the option of eight different colorways expressed in Belgian linen and Italian leather. The MAG:2’s bent-curved, lightweight matte zinc alloy stand looks like what we’d imagine Marcel Breuer would have designed, if he was alive today to design a Knoll stand for his iPhone.

The MAG:2 isn’t merely designed to be a passive charging stand, but also a useful tool for video chatting, magnetically holding the phone in an elevated position for FaceTime or Zoomin’ sessions. And when set in horizontal mode, the stand allows for convenient content viewing.

The Courant MAG:2 is available in three colors in Belgian linen for $100 and in five additional colors in Italian-sourced leather for $150.
