Discover a Borough of Creativity at BROOKLYN DESIGNS 2018

It’s officially May which means NYCxDESIGN is just around the corner! For its 15th edition, BROOKLYN DESIGNS will be kicking off the first weekend from May 11-13, 2018 with an exhibition to highlight and celebrate the borough’s creative community, presented at the Brooklyn Museum by the Brooklyn Chamber of Commerce and co-produced with Novità Communications. There’s a lot to see for the three days of the exhibition, so here’s what you can expect:

Textiles Art Center

The show’s program includes a list of talks, presentations, and even a two-hour guided walking tour of Prospect Park to discuss the borough’s burgeoning hub of creativity. Jonathan Marvel, the founding Principal of Marvel Architects, is this year’s keynote speaker. He’ll be chatting with Paul Makovsky, the Vice President of Design at Metropolis, about the future of the Brooklyn skyline and his projects that currently line the sky. The show will also feature special installations, including an exhibit of historic ceramics from Brooklyn dating back to the 19th century from the museum’s decorative arts collection, a showcase from the Textiles Art Center, and a presentation by Pratt Institute GAUD’s M.S.Arch program of student prototypes with AR components.

50+ emerging designers and established brands will be showcasing a range of design objects, including furniture, lighting, tableware, art, textiles, technology, jewelry and more. A few highlights include:

…TOKEN, who bridges old and new and takes inspiration from European arts + crafts movement, Chinese landscape painting and Abstract Expressionalism to create unique furniture.

…SHUYA Design, who combines wood + marble in unconventional ways.

…Fitchworks, whose ornamental pendants illuminate intricate patterns created from powered nylon and porcelain.

Lastly, returning for the fourth year, the BROOKLYN BUYS marketplace will be your one stop shop for original designs by designers and makers specializing in jewelry, ceramics, and other items – just in time for Mother’s Day.
