DMTV Milkshake: Erin Kleinberg on Empowering Female Founders

Erin Kleinberg is a creative mover and shaker of the highest order: The founder of the genre-defining digital brand The Coveteur and CEO and owner of Métier Creative, an award-winning advertising and branding agency, her most recent project is Sidia. If you’re looking for a way to channel both exceptional beauty and extreme ease – maybe with a pair of silky palazzo pants, maybe with the Braless candle with top notes of soft spices, bamboo, clove, and coconut cream – Sidia’s your brand.

In this week’s Milkshake, Erin shares loads of information for ambitious creatives – you’ll want to take notes if you’re currently in the midst of building a brand. As she says, it’s a tough road to take  – especially for perennially under-funded women entrepreneurs. “I could say that funding for females is really rampant right now and it’s booming – it’s not,” she says. “There are some key players who are really committed to actually bringing the right capital to founders – but I highly suggest just identifying people who can believe in your vision. They [should] fit your profile instead of you making sure you retrofit into their profile.”

Also in this Milkshake, Erin shares the reality behind pursuing her dreams – and how that’s inevitably an it-takes-a-village proposition: “It’s taken my friends, my family, my investors, my advisors, my mentors, my kids, my husband – like, everyone is involved in my entrepreneurial journey,” she says. “And so I think that’s really critical to kind of start to talk to the people around you, let them know you want to go on this path, try this thing out and make sure they have your back. Let them know that it’s going to be a hard journey.”

Milkshake, DMTV (Design Milk TV)’s first regular series, shakes up the traditional interview format by asking designers, creatives, educators and industry professionals to select interview questions at random from their favorite bowl or vessel. During their candid discussions, you’ll not only gain a peek into their personal homeware collections, but also valuable insights into their work, life and passions.
