Earth Day: 5 Modern Products That Give Back to the Planet

No matter what is happening in the world, we still remain consumers buying up our needs and wants whenever it’s possible. But as consumers, we have the ability, and obligation, to try to make better choices when making purchases, from selecting products not made of plastic to supporting companies that utilize sustainable materials. We can also choose brands where giving back is part of their ethos. With today marking the 50th anniversary of Earth Day, we thought we’d share five modern products where the brand is making a point to give back in ways that better our planet.

Closca Bottle Coral Kit by Closca
We all know the importance of reusable water bottles to avoid further filling up our planet’s landfills, but not all bottles are alike. Some are like this hands-free bottle you can attach to any suitcase, bag or purse strap, and even a bike. It also features dual caps where you can fill it with ice or use the included infuser to add fruit or tea for an elevated beverage. Plus, with every Closca Bottle you purchase, Closca donates 10% to a Marine Life Conservation NGO, which is pretty awesome.

The Earth Puzzle by Four Point Puzzles
Remember last month when we shared The Moon Puzzle? Four Point Puzzles is back with The Earth, an equally enticing 1000-piece puzzle that will definitely keep you and your family entertained for quite some time. The circular puzzle features a portion of the Western Hemisphere and the Pacific Ocean in a super clear image courtesy of NASA. With today marking the 50th anniversary of Earth Day, the puzzle launches with Four Point Puzzles making a promise to donate 10% of its sales to wildlife and habitat conservation every day, not just today.

Confidant Hardcover Notebook by Baronfig
After starting as a Kickstarter years ago, Baronfig has solidified itself in the world of notebooks, pens, and productivity tools, i.e. Tools for Thinking. Their notebooks are well-crafted and smartly designed with quality paper and durable clothbound covers that are built to last, whether you keep it at home, take it to work, or travel with it. They come in three sizes (Pocket, Flagship, and Plus), three styles of paper (Dot Grid, Blank, and Ruled), and in eight cover colors (Charcoal, Light Gray, Blue Slate, Fig Wine, Yellowgold, Crimson Red, and Forest Green), so you can customize the best notebook for you and your needs. To top it off, the Confidant notebooks are a part of their Buy a Book, Plant a Tree program, which means if you purchase a notebook, they plant a tree, thereby reducing the impact on the earth.

Circle Gradient Print by Ryan Carl for WWF x Evermade
This limited edition print is part of a collection of 26 designs created by Brighton-based art studio Evermade who invited 26 artists and designers, including Ryan Carl, to design a print referencing today’s climate crisis. Each of the artists followed the same brief of starting with a circular composition and Carl used the colors blue and green to reference earth, water, and air, and a circular gradient to give the subtle feeling of “motion and interconnectedness.” Evermade collaborated with the World Wildlife Fund (WWF) on the project in hopes of bringing a bit of creativity to the conservation conversation, and to raise money – they’re donating 100% of the profits to the WWF, the world’s leading conservation organization.

BirdProject Soap, Beau Ciel Bleu Edition by Goods That Matter
A minimalist bird-shaped soap made from natural, locally-sourced ingredients, like biodiesel glycerin, fair trade olive oil, aloe, activated black charcoal, and a light cypress scent. As the soap is used, a blue ceramic bird, handmade from Louisiana Clay, reveals itself as a permanent keepsake. The soap’s shape perfectly fits within your hand as a representation of all of the animals affected by the BP Deepwater Horizon Oil Spill Disaster. Through washing and freeing the ceramic bird, you’re reminded that restoration and recovery are possible after a disaster. With every BirdProject Soap sold, Goods that Matter donates 10% of proceeds to the environmental cleanup and care for affected animals during the spill via the Gulf Restoration Network and International Bird Rescue. So far, they’ve donated $28,674 to the efforts!
