An Eichler in Marinwood Gets a Major Renovation

Designer Stephen Shoup, head of building Lab, and his landscape architect wife Taya Shoup, designed and gave a complete renovation to this original Eichler home in Marinwood, California that they purchased in 2012. Working with their 21st century lifestyle, they gave the home a renovation that also stayed true to the original design.

Just like most Eichler homes, this one was a great one at the start, both simple and modest, which remains in the new design. Landscaping was key to the design helping to engage the front yard with the exterior of the house. Various textures and colors were used to keep the eyes entertained.

A five foot tall wooden fence makes way for a front courtyard with extra privacy. A large picture window was installed in the dining room drawing eyes from the street onto the site.

The kitchen became the main focus as the core of the home, which filters out to the rest of the public spaces.

The living room, dining room, and kitchen are all connected by a walnut veneer wall that runs the length of the house – similar to the original mahogany plywood panels used in original Eichler’s.
