Erik Stehmann

Erik Stehmann intends to make design more playful and dynamic. The designer likes to surprise spectators and cause a smile, “because we already have so little room for lightness and giddiness, nowadays.”

Tube Chair
After his research for Balloon animals, and the knotting of them, Erik Stehmann started exploring several possibilities to eternalize the shapes. It resulted in the Tube Chair, which combines some of the details he bumped into during the research, as well as the freedom to bend a shape by hand.

Paper Puppies
The use of old news also illustrates the drive for more lightness and giddiness. He starts off each morning making one puppy, with that day’s newspaper.

Material Rings
These rings are the result of some small material and form experiments. He tried to capture a sort of tension in all of the designs, working with playful materials such as aluminum foil, balloons and rubber bands.
Aluminum foil ring: plastic
Balloon ring: 24K Gold plated bronze
Rubber band ring: Silver and Rubber

Stuffed Furniture
A range of interior products created by approaching furniture as stuffed animals. The collection consists of cotton shapes filled with pourable soft foam that reach their final form by the expansion of the foam. Each piece is unique, because this process is uncontrollable, and it creates its own wrinkles and dents.
