An Existing Home & Modern Addition Become One

A couple living in the center of Lier, Belgium, quickly outgrew their house on the corner after the arrival of their baby. Luckily, the house next door came up for sale and they immediately bought it. After demolishing it, P8 architecten designed an addition to house an extra living space, a patio, a lounge, and a master bedroom. The project, House LKS, blends the old with the new while also showing a strong contrast between the two, with the new one being white and the older one with a darker facade.

Long vertical windows break the white facade up and cast light into the new space.

On the inside, dark wooden floors contrast with the stark white walls, much like the two exteriors.

The two houses blend perfectly on the interior, with no distinction between the two.

On the ground floor of the new house, they installed a small swimming pool that can be used all year long. The pool sits between two sets of folding doors that can close the pool off to the outdoors when it’s wintertime and open it completely up during the warmer months.

When it’s cooler and the exterior door is closed, the light still comes in to make it feel like you’re swimming outdoors.

There’s also a vertical garden located right outside past the pool helping to make it feel outdoorsy year round.

P8 worked with interior architect Kalle Block who designed all of the permanent furniture.
