Sebastian Errazuriz is no stranger to creating unique cabinetry that catches your attention instantly, but with the Explosion cabinet, the intensity of the piece is not immediately evident. At first, the cabinet appears fairly tame and tidy. When activated with a simple push or pull, the cabinet seems to explode in both directions, sliding outward.
Using complex mechanics that took more than a year to perfect, the design is yet again a reminder of this designer’s amazing talent that crosses the line from design into art.
It was recently acquired by the Carnegie Museum of Art (CMOA). It will be the centerpiece in his upcoming solo exhibition Sebastian Errazuriz: Look Again.
