Fin Chandelier: A Low Profile Fixture with Geometric Reflectors for Precise Lighting

Fin Chandelier is a suspended light created by Dubai and New York-based designer Nader Gammas. The artist, hired as a lighting consultant for a private residence, was very specific in the lighting effect he wanted to create for the space.

Fin Chandelier was the result of an inability to find anything on the market that would simultaneously provide focused light on a larger dining surface without over-illumination throughout the surrounding space. The fixture needed to be precisely shallow in height, but expansive horizontally.

The chandelier features an array of fins, each with 15cm envelopes to control the light, which would serve as the reflector body. The customization capabilities of the light became apparent when Kelly Wearstler’s studio modified the chandelier to outfit a breakfast nook that would present the light in three-tiers with reflectors twisting as they rose in height.
