Flight Mode with Artist and Designer Elyse Graham

We’ve been a fan of Elyse Graham for quite some time. The Los Angeles-based artist and designer experiments with form and color to create her own interpretation of functional everyday objects like vases and mirrors (check her shop here!). Between running her own studio to running after her toddler daughter, we wondered what Elyse would pack to enjoy her alone time in the air. In this Flight Mode, she shares what she likes to travel with:

Ultra Lightweight Carry-On
I try to pack in a single carry-on as much as possible to avoid lost luggage and delays. My favorite bag is the Tarpaulin Carry-On by Hideo Wakamatsu. I love these bags! They’re durable, waterproof, and beautifully designed.

Global Entry
I would not fly any other way. Customs is a breeze and TSA PreCheck is included. It’s worth the hassle and small fee for a breezy trip through any airport.

Packing Cubes
They are the only way I can manage to travel with one bag – they are essential for keeping things organized and easy to find.

Cashmere Shawl
I always freeze on planes, so I don’t leave home without a cashmere shawl that’s cozy for the plane and can double as a wrap when I land. My favorite one was a gift from a dear friend, but I like these reversible ones from J. Crew – two options in one!

Sketch Pad, Pens, and Colored Pencils
Between running my studio and taking care of our toddler daughter, I NEVER get a chunk of uninterrupted time to just think and draw. I relish the “alone time”of air travel. I listen to some tunes and space out in my sketch book.
