Friday Five with Tcherassi Vilató

Tcherassi Vilató is a Barcelona-based design brand founded by Angelica Tcherassi and Jacob Vilató, the duo behind TCHV architects. After meeting in 2004 at University where they were both studying architecture, the pair became inseparable. Founding their firm in 2007, they got started designing medium to large scale projects internationally, that included residential, museums, malls, to landscaping and interior design. 2012 saw the launch of a new direction, Tcherassi Vilató, where they can design lighting, furniture, and interiors. For this week’s Friday Five, this pair explores what keeps them creatively stimulated.

1. Skull
We’ve always been very cautious about the definition of art. Maintaining a gap between architecture/design & art has helped us to always have our feet on the ground by taking ourselves less seriously. As we grow older, visual joy gets more important as a source of happiness and a way to understand what surrounds us. This is an inspiring composition and photograph taken a while ago by Jacob’s dad Jaime Vilató.

2. Leap into the Void by Yves Klein
Yves Klein is amazing. So little time yet so much done. For a few years, young Jacob carried in his wallet a small print of this image. So inspiring and so much depth without words. That must have hurt, Yves! ;)

3. Perrier Sparkling Water
We don’t smoke, nor are we coffee lovers so being at the studio all day we needed a special drink to have around. We were Coca-Cola addicts and have switched for a while now to Perrier. I guess we needed to get closer to water somehow ;) The soft sparkling feeling just keeps us going on our long work days.

4. Food Spices
We are absolute foodies. So cooking is something we really enjoy doing almost on a daily basis. Beautiful ground and whole spices from all over the world enrich our pantry. Our kitchen is full of spices from all the different places we have recently traveled to. We just love throwing dinner parties at home and spices help enhance many dish flavors.

5. Samsung Galaxy 4 & Samsung K Zoom
These are definitely our VADEMECUMS, we use them to stay in touch 24/7 with all our international clients. It´s like an extension of our ears and arms now. Love the ironic freedom it provides us. Angelica got the Samsung K Zoom on our latest business trip to Malaysia and now she can´t stop taking pics.
