Friday Five with Taniya Nayak

Interior designer and television host Taniya Nayak became a household name as the design expert on HGTV’s Designed to Sell (did you see her cameo in our DINE+DESIGN PATCH NYC video?). She got her start soon after graduating from Boston Architectural College, appearing on ABC Family’s Knock First, and then as a designer on the HGTV’s FreeStyle. In her Boston-based firm Taniya Nayak Design, Nayak  uses the same principles she does on the small screen, helping homeowners transform their uninspired homes for top-dollar sales, through staging and minor renovations. Her Friday Five lets us peak into what keeps her organized, inspired, and calm.

1. iPhone
I can’t go one day with out my iPhone. It is by my side at all times. It helps me organize my crazy life. I use it to shoot inspiration, scan docs, organize my travel, manage my accounts, tweet, Face Time, and much more. And it’s all in the palm of my hand. I like the sleek design and all that it is capable of doing. If it’s wrong to love this little device as much as I do, then I don’t want to be right.

2. Edison Bulb
I know that the Edison bulb has become trendy, but I have loved the classic style for a long time. It’s not just the simplicity of the design of the bulb that I adore, it is what it represents. It says so much while being so humble. It represents a bright idea, and a bright idea represents creativity.

3. Wassily Chair
This chair is iconic and timeless. There is something both sophisticated and sexy about it. I love that Breuer was inspired by his metal bicycle frame when designing it. I grew up with these chairs in my parents home, so I feel a sense of nostalgia every time I look at them. I now have them in my own home.

4. A Water View
Looking out at the water always brings me so much peace and a sense of calm. My home overlooks a river.  It’s amazing what it does for my soul.

5. Reclaimed Wood
You can put a wall of reclaimed wood in any space and it just comes to life. I love it. I use it in my designs any chance I can.
