Friday Five with Zoë Pawlak

Last year we were completely mesmerized and inspired by the studio and colorful artwork of Montreal-based artist Zoë Pawlak, so we decided to delve back in and ask her to do a Friday Five for us. The artist and designer made a mark in the art world with her vibrant paintings and more recently she’s expanded her offerings to include rug collections, a mirror collection, and furniture collaborations, including a series of hand-painted credenzas with Jeff Martin Joinery. Her work has not only made it into many private collections, it’s been featured in Martha Stewart Living, Interior Design, Design Milk (!), and Architectural Digest, to name a few. Below, the Canadian creative gives us a closer look into her world by sharing some of her favorite things.

1. jumpsuits
I love jumpsuits. They make me feel good and are easy to wear. It’s like wearing a fashionable sleeping bag.

2. M.I.A.
I listen to a lot of music. And, M.I.A., I admire her. A risk-taker, she takes political content to advocate for people who don’t have a larger voice. She is badass!

3. coffee [in Montreal]
In honour of Montreal! There are cute coffee spots all around town. I start my morning with coffee and brew some throughout the day.

4. my kids
My kids’ ground me. We have a lot of fun together. They encourage me to play and be less serious about life. I respect them a lot and love following their lead to see where life can take us as a family.

5. basketball
I coach teenage girls basketball. I play in a Saturday league with a bunch of super ladies. Complementary with art and business practices, basketball keeps me moving and clears the mind.
