GANDIABLASCO Turns Printed Glass Into Works of Art as Tables

If you’ve ever watched a sunset dip below the horizon or woken up early to catch the sunrise, you know firsthand just how spectacular the view can be. The ethereal golden light at these hours seems to be made of infinite colors harmoniously blending together, creating an ephemeral moment that is hard to convey through anything other than a painting or a photo. It is these observations that inspired designer Alejandra Gandía-Blasco in creating the Iris collection for Mediterranean outdoor furniture brand GANDIABLACO. The series features dining tables, coffee tables, and side tables with printed glass tabletops depicting sunrises and sunsets.

Four modern tables with colorful, artistic tops and slender legs are arranged on a white background.

The tabletop designs are not imagined from Gandía-Blasco’s memories but are photographs captured by the designer herself. “It is a type of experimental work with natural light and the refraction it creates when photographed with a phone,” explains the designer. “Through this, I obtain infinite nuances of color and varied compositions depending on the exact moment when I capture the light, among many other factors.”

Stormy Iris Tables

There are 12 tables within the Iris collection. Each one has a design that has been fused into the glass with ceramic pigments. After tempering the glass – a process that involves heating it to a high temperature and then rapidly cooling it – the design is permanently vitrified. The glass tabletops are then fitted directly into the powder-coated aluminum structures without any external fittings, eliminating any distractions from the design. Because the printed tempered glass is semi-transparent, the tables cast colors onto the floor like that of stained glass windows.

While the smaller coffee tables showcase a single design, the larger coffee tables and the dining tables feature a mosaic-like design of both sunrises and sunsets, a pattern reminiscent of classic tile tables but in a single sheet versus loose parts.

Available in three different shades (black/grey, orange, and blue), the Iris collection is highly suitable for outdoor use and effortlessly complements all of GIANDIABLASCO’s outdoor furniture.
