Situated along the banks of Montauk, New York, with its unpredictable weather patterns and storied charm, the Genius Loci residence embodies the “Spirit of Montauk” as Bates Masi Architects were able to capture that feel and incorporate it into the design.
Once a horse ranch, the site is located at one of the highest elevations and consists of a lush green pasture. At first glance, the house looks to be two separate, one-story ranch houses but upon further inspection, the house reveals so much more. Clad in cedar shingles that naturally weather over time, the two structures are connected by a wood screen-covered bridge. Below is a courtyard filled with grass pavers.
The interior and exterior staircase is connected but divided by a wall of glass. Warm woods are used throughout balancing out the white walls and giving it the perfect beach house look.
It’s all about the view with sliding glass doors that completely open the space up making you feel like you’re outdoors.
