Geometric Sculptural Paintings by Zin Helena Song

Zin Helena Song is a Korean artist based in New York City who is creating vibrant geometric paintings and sculptures on wood and canvas. She has recently also begun using lighting in her painting sculptures. I asked her a few questions about her work and process…

What inspires your work?

My work is inspired by the architecture and the strong energy of the city.

Do you listen to music while you make art? What’s on your playlist?

I listen to music every time I make art :) The Norah Jones station is one of my favorite playlists.

Where did you get the idea to add lighting to your work?

I got the idea of adding light to my work from seeing store fronts lit with LEDs. LED light has their own color so I wanted to mix that beautiful color with my work.

How do you choose your color palettes?

The colors for my works starts with one color and from there I begin to build off of it. Each color plays off the next and this process goes on until the piece is complete.

Who is one of your favorite contemporary artists?

Robert Mangold ;)
