Gradient Bangles by Maiko Gubler

Just when you think you’ve seen enough of 3D printing, someone manages to surprise you with what they did. This time it’s Berlin-based Maiko Gubler and a series called Gradient Bangles. These sculptural bracelets go from 3D renderings into surreal, pastel candy colored, chalk-like shapes of 3D printed colored gypsum, which basically means mind-blowing sculptures for your wrists.

The initial approach is based on the 3D modeling inherent preset of SURFACE NORMALS, automatically generated gradient RBG images where every pixel represents a surface coordinate of a model relative to its position in space. This dependency is then suspended again, by deliberately reassigning inappropriate coordinates provoking random-skinned objects.
