Graphic FILO Porcelain Tiles by Alessandro & Francesco Mendini for Ceramiche Refin

We fell in love with the Fossil tile series by Kasia Zareba for Ceramiche Refin and we discovered yet another one of their porcelain tile collections that we just can’t get enough of.

FILO, designed by Italian architects and brothers Alessandro and Francesco Mendini as an out-of-competition entry in the “Create your Tile” competition run by DesignTaleStudio, trademark Ceramiche Refin.

The porcelain tiles are 75×75 cm (about 30×30 inches) and come in four different colorways and one pattern in two different densities. It’s like having op-art on your floor! You can change the pattern and feel of the floor just by changing the ways that the tiles are laid out. I bet it would be create an even more dramatic look if you were to combine multiple colors together!

Our decorative patterns originate from a range of references: nature, history, symbols, geometry. In the case of FiLo for DesignTaleStudio, the strained weave of the lines comes from the three-dimensional movement of a grid; waves are created in its geometries, changing their measurements. The hypothesis is to obtain a vaguely electrical optical result, drawing attention to the floor as we walk on it. –Alessandro and Francesco Mendini
