If you’ve never considered cookware anything more than being a way to cook your meals, you should take a look at Great Jones. The recently launched cookware startup brand was founded by childhood friends, Sierra Tishgart and Maddy Moelis, who bonded over snack foods at summer camp. Tishgart is a former food editor and James Beard Award winner and Moelis comes from a startup background with stints at Warby Parker and Zola. The pair came together and created cookware that’s bound to make anyone and everyone fall in love with cooking, while at the same time paying close attention to aesthetics for those of us in the design-minded crowd.
The pieces in the collection, which includes a Dutch oven, Big Deal stockpot, Saucy sauce pan, Deep Cut sauté pan, and the Small Fry skillet, take on a sculptural feel with curved stainless steel bodies and ergonomic handles in copper colored stainless steel. Then there’s the Dutch oven, aka The Dutchess, that takes the collection to the next level. The enameled cast-iron pot comes in your choice of five delightful colors: Broccoli, Mustard, Blueberry, Earl Grey, and the limited edition, Macaron.
They even added incredibly handy details like laser-etched measurements on the interior.
Plus, there are no rivets on the interior where the handle connects, which means no more stuck food.
Not only did the duo behind Great Jones pay careful attention to the design of the cookware, they paired it with beautifully designed packaging. They worked with Emily Oberman of Pentagram on the vibrant designs, which evoke a hint of nostalgia, as if you’re flipping through one of your grandmother’s vintage cookbooks.
The more you delve into what makes the brand and cookware so special, it becomes no surprise that they’re making major waves in the industry. Whether you’re a chef or an aspiring one, they’ve created pots and pans that will make cooking easier and more enjoyable, even for those who don’t like to cook at all. And when you’re done, you can leave them out on display to admire… and to make your friends jealous.
You can purchase the pieces individually (from $45 to $145) or buy the full Family Style set for $395, which is somewhat of an investment but it’s cheaper than most luxury brands out there.
