Isola Design Week Returns Under the Theme “Together As One”

Tomorrow, the Isola Design Festival kicks off with a week of design events to inspire and connect designers and studios from all over the world. This year’s theme, “Together As One,” highlights the fact that design isn’t about one singular end product. It’s about the process, relations, and connections amongst designers, manufacturers, architects, and consumers. Throughout the festival, you’ll find this theme reiterated through the exhibitions and installations. Whether you’ll be able to attend in person or watch from afar, here are five program highlights you should check out:

Zavier Wong

Sponsored by Heura, the No Space for Waste exhibition will highlight products that were made using byproduct materials or designed to minimize the environmental impact. One of the designers, Zavier Wong, a Singapore-born designer based in the Netherlands, created a series of tables made from discarded materials like scrap wood, steel, brick, styrofoam, and plastic.

Now in its third year, the Materialized exhibition showcases how designers are incorporating sustainable and innovative materials in their designs. Studio Peipei, based in Munich and founded by Benedikt Peirotén, designed vases using glass scraps and mussel shells. Other highlights includes tiles made from paper waste from By The End Of May and biomaterials created by Kuori.
