For this month’s Destination Design, we take you to Hong Kong to check out the J Plus Boutique Hotel, which just celebrated its 10th anniversary. To mark the momentous occasion, yoo completed a HK $10 million revitalization that builds on the original groundbreaking design of Philippe Starck.
The fresh, new lobby features an eclectic mix of black and white furnishings, dotted with bits of color throughout, giving it a renaissance glam feel.
The windows have gold chain curtains pulled back to show yellow, orange, and red tinted glass panels that are inscribed with Chinese motifs of good fortune. The panels also frame the street views. Sandwiched between these frames are Lee Broom crystal cut lights that create real cool illusions by refracting the light through the glass.
The lobby sets the tone and will no doubt, energize the most tired traveler who passes through. How could it not with this sofa?!
The hotel houses 32 studios and 24 suites, each with a bold color scheme. Bright graffiti rugs cover wood floors that surround patterned clay tiles.
Classic comfortable furniture is mixed with modern pieces creating a warm, lively space to relax in.
The beds are hidden away behind white sheer curtains giving you a dreamy space to sleep the night away.
The exterior ties into the interior with a fun concept that makes the building look as if it’s covered in curtains that are being pulled back to reveal the hotel.
