One of the benefits of living in California is getting to spend so much time outdoors all year long and with that being said, it’s no wonder people want the exterior to be just as important as the interior. Los Angeles-based architect William Hefner and his interior designer wife, Kazuko Hoshino, recognized the trend of clients wanting modern homes that blend the interior and exterior with the help of landscaping and a clean, simple aesthetic. Hefner’s 6,688 square foot Trousdale Residence is the perfect example.
The interior, like in the master bedroom, flows directly into the backyard with a patio that extends seamlessly from the bedroom. Just a few steps away from that, is the simple, modern pool.
The pool’s clean lines don’t obstruct from the views of Beverly Hills.
Large rectangular pavers connect the open living room and dining room directly to the pool.
Desert plants placed around the house were used like objects of art.
Floor-to-ceiling windows replace walls so each room has unobstructed views.
The homeowner is an art collector, so lighting was a key factor in the design as works of art are displayed in various spots. The wall of sliding windows opens right up making the separation disappear.
Instead of a wall behind the bathroom sinks, they installed windows making the space so open and bright. There’s even access to the patio from here.
It would totally feel like you’re showering outdoors here!
