Kyuzo Collection is an assortment of minimalist designs created by New York City-based designers Visibility for Matter Made. The collection, an assortment of desk and home accessories, was driven by materiality and designed to provide divisions of space through subtle hierarchies. In no coincidence is the collection named after one of the characters of Akira Kurosawa’s 1954 epic Seven Samurai.
A variety of materials were used with a focus on each material’s production capabilities. The range, which focuses on purity and composition, includes cast iron, aluminum, wood, glass, and marble to form a complete set that thrives on the sculpted language of another.
The objects all serve a specific function common for the desk and home. Among these include a paperweight, which allots additional space for important documents, a two-tiered folio holder, bookends, a tray for pens and pencils, and a dish with a soft sloping surface, available in three sizes. Although each of the objects have suggested functions, their design offers a flexibility for them to be used in a variety of ways.
