With more things being machine made, industrial designer Defne Koz’s keen eye focuses on key details and traditional craft, along with a bit of new technology in her first collaboration with Bernhardt Design. Laine is a barstool made with a stainless steel base and a solid walnut seat that is carved specifically to fit the four connecting points.
Instead of hiding each leg underneath the stool’s seat, like most of them, Koz purposely brought the connection point up around the stool making it an important design detail. The four stainless steel “hands” anchor the seat, much like a setting would hold a jewel in place on a ring.
