LAYER x Cat Person: Adaptable, Modern Gear for Cool Cats

We’ve said it before that products for cats have gradually been improving over the years, thankfully going beyond those carpeted trees that have been around for decades. The latest to be doing this industry justice is Benjamin Hubert and his design agency LAYER, who’ve designed a collection for New York-based startup, Cat Person. The LAYER x Cat Person collection comprises two products, the Canopy Bed and the Mesa Bowl, both aiming to strengthen the bond between cats and their people.

Cat Person emerged out of Harry’s Inc., the company behind care brands Harry’s and Flamingo, and if it’s anything like their inaugural success, Cat Person will follow right in line with their unique cat products. With millennials owning about 35% of the pets in the US, it makes sense that designers are working hard to appeal to their design sense. After studying up on feline behavior, LAYER went to work and created a playful collection with mix-and-match colors and sculptural forms that easily work in modern homes.

The Canopy Bed is a 3-in-1 bed that adapts to your cat’s needs throughout the day. With most cats sleeping up to 17 hours per day, a cozy sleeping spot is a must for them to be able to retreat to. The design allows for three configurations depending on the cat’s mood – they can lounge openly on just the bed, feel slightly protected with the walls halfway up, or hidden to be left alone.

The bed is circular in shape with a memory foam cushion for comfort allowing the cat to curl up in its natural sleeping position. The felted PET roof is durable enough to withstand the kneading and scratching most cats do. The Canopy Bed is available in three cool colorways – Jungle, Tundra, and Savanna.

The Mesa Bowl is a modular feeding station designed to accommodate your cat’s eating style. A rounded plastic bowl sits atop a raised stand so the cat doesn’t have to hunch over to eat or drink. The bowl and stand rest on a semi-rigid plastic mat that helps keep things mess-free during meal times. The Mesa Bowl can be used with the bowls on the ground for kittens to reach and then raised up on the stand when they’ve grown. Just like the Canopy Bed, the feeding station comes in three colorways – Jungle, Tundra, and Savanna.
