Matt W. Moore’s Bold Graphics Go Three-Dimensional

Artist and designer Matt W. Moore took a new approach with his latest work, SHADOVVS, which he produced during a two-month stay in Oakland, California and a two-week residency in 886 Geary Gallery. The body of work takes the bold, graphic elements he’s known for and puts a three-dimensional spin on them resulting in colorful, geometric mosaics.

The three-dimensional sculptures are further enhanced by light coming from different angles, as well as the intensity of it, which creates shadows and additional hues.

The exhibition is made up of five parts, each having their own concept and look. There  is a four piece series of purely symmetrical, colorful compositions, a series of 12 square works that reflect Moore’s signature graphic skills but in 3D, a series of greyscale cut-paper mosaics that led to this new way of working, an extra large construct made up of five, colorless pieces that explore light and shadow, and finally a large mosaic, white-on-white mural composed of the same shapes used in the rest of the work.
