Meet The Maker at IDS Toronto 2020: Kastella

We shared over on this post here a look at what you can expect at next year’s IDS Toronto in January. Today, we’re kicking off a mini series to showcase the three designers in the show’s Maker section, a platform that gives independent makers and brands who are looking to expand their distribution the opportunity to share their designs. First up is Kastella, whom we’ve profiled before here.

Kastella is a contemporary hardwood furniture brand based out of Montreal. Founded by Jason Burhop in 2001, Kastella began as a small workshop specializing in custom cabinetry and has since expanded to designing contemporary furniture collections with now over 30 pieces that include dining tables, beds, dressers, and chairs. Each piece is handmade with certified North American hardwoods using traditional construction techniques to properly highlight the beauty of the natural materials. To add to its repertoire, Kastella is also a manufacturer of residential architectural millwork.

This T113 Table will be on display at IDS Toronto 2020.

At IDS 2020, Kastella will be featuring the T113 table, the latest in the collection. The solid wood table has a subtle cove detail on all four sides and an inset apron that curves into the legs. With the legs placed as far into the corners as possible, the T113 can be made to comfortably seat 6, 8, or 10 people. Kastella will also be featuring a large version of their S305 bookshelf (not pictured here) in solid American white oak for the first time.
