RIT professor and Friday Five veteran Josh Owen launched Metaproject in 2010, an industrial design course that would partner students with industry The second generation of Metaproject, which was exhibited this year at Wanted Design during New York Design Week, was a collaboration with the Corning Museum of Glass (CMoG). Pictured above is a work by student Gabriel Greelaw.
The students worked with glass to explore design concepts lead by Owen, RIT glass faculty members Michael Rogers and Robin Cass and CMoG. The undertone of the exhibition is the “Design is One” philosophy exposed by the Vignelli Center for Design Studies.
The designs resulting from the course were juried and shown during Design Week in New York City. RIT also published a case study book that chronicles the methodology and output from the course that helps the entire design process come to light.
