MG+BW Home Partners With Designer Rafael de Cárdenas To Celebrate Individuality in a New Collection

In the brand’s latest collaboration, modern American home retailer MG+BW Home has joined forces with designer Rafael de Cárdenas to create a 19-piece, larger-than-life home furniture collection. The Rafael de Cárdenas for Mitchell Gold + Bob Williams series is full of color and form – with plenty of room to add your own artful self-expression. Within it, the brand showcases the quality and craftsmanship it’s known for through custom-designed pieces that feature timeless silhouettes and natural materials. Each piece feels unique, yet immediately at home, in any space.

“I love that Rafael created three different environments – living, dining, and bedroom – where the language of the upholstery pieces and the tables and storage really speak to each other,” said Jenn Gibbs, MG+BW Home, SVP of Design. “They have a lot of curves and soft corners, all very modern but in a very comfortable way, which exemplifies the look and feel MG+BW Home is known for.”

Of his experience de Cárdenas added, “It was great to experiment and figure out what these pieces wanted to be. And from the first round, we were definitely humbled by the expertise of MG+BW Home’s artisans. It was a pleasure to see their knowledge take over and inform how the pieces were crafted. Together we made a collection my childhood dreams were made of and made it accessible for every taste.”

Drawing inspiration from film and the culture that formed his design sensibility at a young age, de Cárdenas wanted to create pieces that are both classic and contemporary, while also acting as a palette where you can explore freely. MG+BW Home’s 400+ fabric options provide that opportunity to create truly distinct, versatile pieces, which is an integral part of the brand’s own design process.

A common design language can be found throughout the collection, as evident in pairings like the Horizon bed with optional headboard extensions and the Full Moon bedroom storage with stainless-steel insets. Also in the conversation are the Saturday Sofa and Sunbeam Chair with Honeymoon nesting coffee tables in natural walnut and Arabescato Italian marble.

de Cárdenas took into consideration what he refers to as “incremental design.” It’s the key to the collection, where adding even the smallest of items – such as the sculptural Lotus pedestal side table – can give new life to an interior space. Meanwhile, pieces like the Lily pouf and ottoman encourage you to take chances with color through the two-fabric option that allows you to combine colors, textures, and patterns.

“This special collection gives you many opportunities for creativity,” says Jenn Gibbs of MG+BW Home. “It combines the bespoke service Rafael provides to his clients with the handiwork of multigenerational artisan craftspeople at our North Carolina factory, the root of our storied history for nearly 35 years.”
