Michelle Forsyth’s work has taken a dramatic turn lately with regards to style and subject matter. The new series entitled Dark Watercolors & Weavings combines watercolor and colored pencil on paper, along with some hand stitching. They are gorgeous and intense and full of hyperfocused detail.

The dark greys and blacks of the watercolors set the stage for the precise lines of the colored pencil on top. The hand stitching gives the pieces even more dimension and a tactile quality. To simplify it and call it fabric-like is almost demeaning since the pieces are achieved through meticulous attention to detail and a whole lot of patience.
