Modern Lighting Inspired by Ancient Chinese Lanterns

Hangzhou, China based Mario Tsai just released the Lantern lighting series, which includes a desk lamp, floor lamp, and chandelier. The trio of lights, inspired by the centuries old Chinese lanterns, are stripped back to result in a streamlined form with simple lines.

The open, capsule-shaped forms come with lampshades that are either metal mesh or glass, depending on what type of light intensity and look are desired. The metal mesh lets light escape through the perforated openings while also creating shadows, and the glass displays an even cascade of light.
