MOO + SCOPE Paper View: CODICES by Aerosyn-Lex Mestrovic

Special thanks to A. Moret of Installation Magazine for the contribution.

A business card is a revelatory asset. While it may fit in the palm of one’s hand, it leaves a lasting impression to the person who receives it. The card relays information about an individual or a company, defines their aesthetic as serves as a lasting connection. Purveyors of bespoke paper offerings, MOO, introduce a new line to their distinctive family of products. For customers who truly want to stand out from the crowd, MOO now offers Business Cards+, which integrate Near Field Communication (NFC). The embedded chip activates when paired with a compatible device and triggers Actions, pointing traffic to a website or an online shop. For this seeking texture and panache, MOO introduced the Tailored Collection, which offers the options more design options including Spot Gloss, Raised Spot Gloss and Gold Foil.

As a multi-media artist trained in graphics and fine art and studied the art of calligraphy in Japan, Aerosyn-Lex embraces the handwritten and the digital. Paper has always been a fundamental material in the artist’s practice as he explains that “paper is inseparable from the story of mankind.” He continues, “paper has always been a core element in my works and practice. It has however become something wholly unique and taken center-stage in this new collection of works. Paper is the vessel with which humanity has recorded its history, passed down its knowledge, fostered its culture and given shape to who we are today, and who we will be tomorrow.”

While visitors explore the sculptural world on display, they can simply tap an Android device against an NFC card and interact with the installation in an entirely new way. Lisa Gralnek, Head of Marketing-Creatives considers Aerosyn-Lex’s work to reflect the philosophy that drives Paper View and describes that the artist “managed to incorporate his visual identity into new works, including paper coated frames, and sculptures that use pressed paper pulp to create [human] forms.” He continues to say that “onto all of this, he’s layered NFC technology making these works more than just what you see.

A native Angeleno, A. Moret (pronounced like the Dean Martin song “That’s Amore”) travels the city and often the world visiting artist studios, galleries and museums and records it all in a black Moleskin. Founder and Editor-in-Chief of Installation Magazine, an all-digital publication that believes art should be a source of conversation not intimidation. To date over 500 artists have been featured in its digital pages working across all disciplines and various stages of their career. As a Chief Arts Contributor for leading national publications, A. is always on the move conducting studio visits, curatorial profiles and exhibition reviews. After making her curatorial debut last year in New York City during Armory Week, she continues to explore opportunities to give artist’s a platform to share their work and tell their story. While she wears many hats as an editor, writer, artistic director and curator, A’s biggest challenge is finding more wall space to fill her art collection.
