A Multipurpose Table with a Reversible Top

Atelier JMCA were tasked with designing the multipurpose Work & Turn table for the Paris co-working office Volumes’ FOODLAB. They required a double duty piece that could be a working desk and cutting area for their cooking classes and workshops as well as a dining table or working area for all of the co-workers that use the space.

The easiest way to get all of the functions they needed was to make it rotate. The table flips in two easy steps. First the two side legs fold up 120 degrees like butterfly wings and then the tabletop can rotate. Once it’s flipped, the legs go back to their original place, perpendicular to the table.

Users can plug their computers, phones, or appliances into the outlets on either side as the table can plug into an electrical outlet.

With its two extension leaves, the table is more than four meters (over 13 feet long), which required extra thought to maintain the support needed to make it stable.

The table was designed and developed to be made by a 3-shaft CNC combined cutting and milling machine. The cutting and mounting of this table was made at Volumes’ FABLAB by Atelier JMCA’s team.
